Co-Washing
Hello!! Welcome to our very first blog! After much deliberation over what to write about today we have decided to talk about Co-Wash, the ‘cleansing’ regimen that is taking the hair world by storm.
What is Co-Wash? Co-Wash is the abbreviated version of Conditioner only cleansing. This super gentle method of cleansing the hair was first discovered by some curly haired lovelies who recognised that textured hair tends to be, by nature, drier than smooth or straight hair types. Because of the twists and turns of the curls the natural oils from the scalp find it harder to navigate the hair and so tends to not provide natural moisture, hence the hair being dry and more prone to damage.
So, what measures could we take to ensure that we aren’t causing even more stress to the hair? As most of the shampoos available contain sulphates (those nasty salty chemicals that give you that reassuring lather) it makes sense that eliminating this from our haircare routine would hopefully improve the overall condition of our hair. Experts believe that there is just enough of this cleansing chemical in your favourite conditioner to clean the hair effectively whilst maintaining the condition and integrity of the hair and traditionally this is how Co-Wash has been achieved.
New technology has recently seen the arrival of Co-Wash products onto the market. Most brands have one and the in the USA this market is worth $Millions!
You can Co-Wash as often as you like and as often as you feel you need to. However we would always recommend a scalp cleanse once a week or fortnight to keep your scalp in optimum health. This can be done with a low sulphate shampoo and will prevent any itchies sometimes associated with Co-Wash only routines and help to keep the scalp happy.
Here at Studio One we offer a range of Co-Wash options for you to try at home. Especially made with gentle cleansing in mind, Biolage Cleansing Conditioner is a Co-Wash product designed to cleanse the hair without stripping it, condition without adding unnecessary weight and control the hair without stripping it – so happy hair all round! With an offering for Curly Hair, Coarse Hair, Medium and Fine Hair there is something for everyone.
We absolutely stand behind Co-Washing as a way of going back to basics with your haircare routine. So come on and join the revolution at Studio One Hairdressing.
